A recently published study in the British Journal of Cancer suggests elevated blood sugar levels may increase women’s risk of colon cancer. Over a 12-year period women with the highest blood sugar levels were nearly twice as likely to develop colon cancer than women with the lowest blood sugar levels. Last month, the Prevent Cancer Foundation participated in the Dempsey Challenge presented by Amgen. The event is a fundraiser for The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, Maine.
