Peak Vista, a 2011 community grantee, operates 19 outpatient health centers in Colorado, providing high quality health care to low-income, uninsured and under-insured families since 1971, including free skin cancer screenings. Over 420 Colorado Springs and surrounding area residents turned out for an annual skin screening in May, recognizing the importance of early detection when it comes to cancer protection. Great strides have been made in the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer but, we still don’t know what causes breast cancer and we don’t know how to cure it. The Prevent Cancer Foundation launched the Colorectal Cancer Screening Saves Lives National Challenge in March of this year.
