Gulfcoast South Area Health Education Center, Inc. (GSAHEC), is providing colorectal and prostate cancer education and promoting preventive behaviors among medically underserved Hispanics/Latinos and African Americans in Manatee and Sarasota counties, Florida. The organization was awarded a $25,000 grant through the Foundations 2011 Community Grants program. Peak Vista, a 2011 community grantee, operates 19 outpatient health centers in Colorado, providing high quality health care to low-income, uninsured and under-insured families since 1971, including free skin cancer screenings. Over 420 Colorado Springs and surrounding area residents turned out for an annual skin screening in May, recognizing the importance of early detection when it comes to cancer protection. The Prevent Cancer Foundation launched the Colorectal Cancer Screening Saves Lives National Challenge in March of this year. The purpose of the Challenge is to champion community projects in colorectal cancer (CRC) screening/awareness across the country.  We were thrilled to receive 11 applications in this first year of holding the Challenge!  All of our applicants worked hard to gather votes and promote their projects; we applaud their efforts in CRC awareness and screening.
